Civility builds on the recognition that we are members of a shared society. This recognition allows us to stay in dialogue long enough to reach a deep enough understanding of multiple perspectives and contexts (Practices C1 and C2), particularly those that are different from our own. This helps bring to light a balanced understanding of both the assets and challenges facing our communities. Use this activity alone or with a group to think through the common ground you share with people who are very different from you.
